what's the story?

Established by Patricia Canning (PhD), read.live.learn. is committed to using creative ways to encourage critical thinking, perspective-taking, and many other benefits by building engaging reading and writing communities with adults and children from all walks of life, whatever their academic ability or personal circumstances. We use literature and the concept of 'story' as a means for making sense of people, events, society and ourselves.
We are sharing stories, but connecting real lives (you can read about the effects here)
Literature offers the means for experiencing and interrogating life. We read in small groups and we talk about what the text might mean (to us, to each other), so that in sharing stories, we are sharing the ideas encoded within and outside them. The stories come from the words on the page, but are brought to life and given specific meaning in the room.
The combination of real-time reading, talking, and listening offers a dynamic, yet supported, shared learning experience not easily accessible outside the book.
Interested in writing? We write in small groups, too; whatever the purpose, every session is practical, productive, and often surprising.
