creative reading groups

In a practical way, good literature 'does' something. It offers us a means for acquiring knowledge, encourages open-mindedness, and develops our langauge abilities. One of the greatest Victorian writers, George Eliot, puts it like this:

​

'[Fiction] is the extension of our sympathies ... extending our contact with our fellow men beyond the bounds of our personal lot'.

​

What literature 'does' is all this and more. For some of us, it helps us find the words through which we can articulate the inexpressible. For others, it can offer a means for making sense. For all of us, literature makes us more connected.

 

Establish a creative reading group to:

  • encourage critical thinking

  • improve concentration

  • develop perspective

  • build community

  • gain more confidence

  • enjoy reading
